Community Mural at Haus der Begegnung St. Claret
A team of fourteen young adults painted a wall at Haus der Begegnung St. Claret in Weißenhorn, Germany with Markus Calleja, Bianca Nandzik and Nadine Weiß. The mural was completed as part of the [vario]zukunft seminar 2016 by Freiwilligendienste Diözese Rottenburg-Stuttgart.
The idea to paint a community mural with monarch butterflies came up during a walk over the monastery premises. Thanks to the approval of the congregation of the Claretians the idea got wings overnight. As a memorable souvenir, the participants planted a lilac bush in front of the mural to attract many butterflies by its scent. For the volunteers the lilac symbolizes the Haus der Begegnung St. Claret, where people from different backgrounds come together to find their place in the community and make their own way into the future.
